My Dearest Mother in Law,

I cannot explain in words how lucky I am to have a wonderful mother-in-law like you. Before I had started dating [mention husband’s name] and getting married to him, I did have a lot of questions regarding marriage. I had always wondered about how my mother-in-law would be.

I had an idea that once I get married to anyone then my freedom would be snatched. But it was a misconception that I had been carrying since my childhood days and it had been erased when I got married into this household.

It was beyond my expectations to get such a beautiful and friendly mother-in-law who would actually inspire me to build my identity and live on my own terms.

I will be really obliged to you throughout my entire lifespan. It would be wrong for me to address you as a mother-in-law because you are more than that. Mother-in-law is a term that brings a distance in the relationship between you and me. It would be rather better to address you as my mother and friend.

The way, you have been supporting me ever since I entered this house as wife and daughter-in-law and then as mother of two children, I will never forget it and I do not know how to repay it.       

I am really thankful for the baking cake for me on my birthday. Ever since I came into this house, you are always the first one to wish me Happy Birthday. 

I wish that you live a healthy and long life. Please bless me and encourage me to fulfill my duties in my family and serve you in the best possible way.

I just wonder what I could have done without you after I came into this family as a wife and a daughter-in-law. As a mother-in-law, you were the one whom I could actually rely on and disclose my problems. Before my marriage to [mention your husband’s name], I was actually close to my mother and elder sister.

They had raised me and taught me the right family values that I had actually to carry forward in my life. I am thankful to God because till now I had been a part of all the good things in my life. In fact, I have been thanking him all the time for the relations that I got in my life because of my good karmas. And therefore, I got married to such a wonderful husband and a great mother-in-law.

This is the place where I found myself not only growing as a wife and a daughter-in-law but also growing as an individual. You have not only given me love and support in every step of life but also freedom and space which I had actually not expected.  You had inspired me to also carry on with my professional life.

I would not forget the support you had given to me during my pregnancy and post-pregnancy days. I owe you for whatever you have done for me. I am also thankful for the way you have been raising my children. You are their favorite grandmother and they love to spend more time with you. 

I must say that you are a darling to everyone!

My Lovely Mother In Law,

I am writing this letter because I have a lot of things to share with you as a daughter-in-law. I got married on [mention wedding date] and it was [mention the year]. So many years have passed by. Yet, all the memories are still fresh in my mind. Actually, apart from saying my prayers to God, I also keep remembering the moments I have been spending in this house where I am living with my husband and also with you. 

I have grown with immense love and support over here. Since the day I had been married to [ mention your husband’s name], you had not stopped praising me even when I cook so badly or when I am not able to do any household work properly.

You always encourage me in whatever I do. As you had met me before marrying [ mention your husband’s name], you had removed my nervousness with motherly touch on my head. I felt the touch like that of the Almighty.

You had put no restrictions on me. You just wanted the way I was in my dad’s house. You had actually never ever been burdened with the responsibilities. It is beyond my expectations to think about the kind of sacrifices you had actually done for me.

I am really thankful for the way you have been looking after [ mention your son or daughter’s name] who is actually your only grandchild. He/she may have given you a really hard time. You had never complained about him. Instead, you had always made favorite recipes for him and also gifted toys to him.   

I am the luckiest woman in the world to get a wonderful mother-in-law like you.

It is the biggest blessing for me that you have become my mother-in-law. I must not actually use this mother-in-law for you. It is because; you are the perfect symbol of motherhood. You had never actually let me feel that I am your daughter-in-law.

I consider myself fortunate because I have been married into a house where love and kindness stand high above everything. And that has been possible all because of you.

Mother, I really need your blessings and your guidance to move ahead in life.
